MY MYSURU CYCLING DAYS of 1970s

Image
Pedalling Through the Past - A Journey on Two Wheels Learning to ride a bicycle is more than just a struggle for balance; it is the first real taste of freedom a young heart ever feels. In the gentle, sun-drenched streets of 1970s Mysuru, our family bicycle wasn't just metal and rubber—it was a silent witness to our growing years, passed down from brother to brother like a sacred torch of independence. Looking back now, these memories trace my own journey from a shy boy watching from the sidelines to a young man confidently pedalling toward a future of his own, leaving a trail of beautiful milestones across the city of my youth. Allow me to take you on a journey down memory lane, as I share the nostalgia and cherished experiences of my cycling days throughout the decade of 1970s, a decade where my life was defined by the simple, rhythmic joy of cycling. My oldest brother had originally bought a bicycle to commute the six-kilometre distance to pursue his Master’s degree at the Unive...

REFLECTIONS ON MY HIGH SCHOOL DAYS

Image
recollections Looking back at my high school years, I am struck by how formative those simple, quiet days truly were. These recollections offer a glimpse into an era when the classroom was defined by discipline, profound respect for mentors, and the indelible marks left by dedicated teachers. Through this lens, I revisit the lessons that shaped my understanding of both mathematics and the human character.  Let me return to my high school days and attempt to recollect some significant happenings from the period of 1969 to 1972. I was a simple, naive, and quiet boy and I was made to sit in the first row of the classroom. I consciously avoided joining friends who tried to act extra smart or disrupt the classes of teachers who weren't particularly strict. I was deeply aware of the potential repercussions—both academic and social—if I failed to maintain silence and decorum in the classroom.  In this piece of writing, let me share memories of two specific teachers who taught us Math...

THE CAPTAINCY PARADOX 🤔😀

Image
Bharat team won T20 world cup yesterday. But.... I am hitting on a sentiment that a lot of cricket fans and analysts have shared throughout this tournament. While Suryakumar Yadav certainly played a pivotal role in leading the team to the title, his batting form during the 2026 T20 World Cup was definitely a point of contention. Apart from his brilliant 84* against the USA in the opener, he struggled to find his usual rhythm in all other matches.  He often got starts but couldn't convert them into match-defining innings, leading to a dip in both his average and his typically explosive strike rate. His golden duck in the final against New Zealand became a major talking point on social media, fuelling the long-standing criticism that he sometimes struggles to make an impact in the high-pressure, decisive moments of major ICC tournaments. Two pluses for him While his personal batting stats weren't up to the high standards he has set for himself, it is worth noting that  ...

FLAG WAVING OR FOOLING THE PUBLIC? 🧐

Image
some patriotic person forwarded this in WhatsApp (2026) Authenticity in Patriotism is needed 🇮🇳 I encourage you to watch the video above carefully. It appears that many people are being carried away by it. I believe a more critical observation is required. Please note that these are only my personal views, and I may be mistaken. This woman’s behaviour is merely a performance. It is clear that she is trying to promote herself and seeks fame by mesmerising the public on the pretext of keeping Bharat's flag. She is not wearing a bindi, bangles, or—as far as I can tell—even earrings.  While wearing a long skirt is fine, the lack of a pallu is notable.  She seems unconcerned with Bharatiya culture, and her dress code is inappropriate for singing a patriotic song.  Throughout the video, she lacks any visible sense of bhakti (devotion) or patriotism.  She is simply waving the Bharatiya flag to fool the public. It seems she has chosen her usual performance dress to wear....

THE NOBEL DILEMMA - HISTORY MAY REPEAT

Image
current affairs Good morning, As of early this morning, the world is coming to terms with a major escalation: the joint U.S.-Israeli strikes on Iran that began on February 28. For Donald Trump, this military action creates a profound political irony, especially given his long-standing pursuit of the Nobel Peace Prize. Trump has been vocal about his desire for the award, publicly asserting that he deserved the honour for mediating several high-stakes international conflicts. Chief among these was his role in de-escalating tensions between Bharat and Pakistan. He repeatedly claimed that his personal intervention prevented a potential nuclear catastrophe, suggesting that without his involvement, both nations might have resorted to their nuclear arsenals. The international response to these claims was telling.  While Pakistan openly recommended Trump to the Nobel Committee, Bharat remained silent. Bharat didn't object to the claims directly but had made it clear that the Operatio...

TEACHER's MOOD - THE STARK REALITY OF 70s CLASSROOMS

Image
recollections Teacher’s Mood: The Stark Reality of 70s Classrooms When I open the bundle of my school-day memories, several startling incidents come to mind alongside the many beautiful moments. The lessons in discipline that teachers gave us back then might seem like mere stories today, but at the time, they were significant challenges in our lives. The education system of that era was a unique blend of fear and reverence. One such incident from my ninth standard (sometime in September 1970) at Sarada Vilas High School, Mysuru remains vivid in my memory to this day. Our Physics teacher had once taken a class on the workings of the camera. He was generally a very grave person and exceptionally strict. In his classroom, no one dared to utter a word; he would simply come, finish his lecture, and leave—his world revolved entirely around his teaching. However, the following day, for some unknown reason, he suddenly began asking questions about the previous day’s lesson. Unfortunately, not ...

NAVIGATING THE EDUCATIONAL CROSSROADS OF 1970s MYSURU

Image
recollections Navigating the Educational Crossroads of 1970s Mysuru The late 1960s and 1970s marked a transitional phase in the Indian educational landscape, where traditional systems were slowly making way for modern career paths. During this era, the concept of professional "career counselings" were virtually non-existent, leaving most students to navigate their futures through a mix of intuition, peer influence, and family expectations. Families often operated on limited resources, making the choice of a study stream a high-stakes decision driven more by pragmatism than passion. Looking back at that pivotal time in Mysuru, it is fascinating to see how the academic structure shaped our identities and our long-term professional journeys. Until the late 1970s, parents were largely unequipped to guide their children through the complexities of academic streams. Even students who harboured specific career ambitions rarely discussed them with friends, likely due to a burgeonin...
