CAUSING CONFUSION IN RSS AT GRASSROOT LEVEL
Causing confusion in RSS and/or BJP
Sri.Dattatreya Hosabale is the Sarkaryavah of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh. He made a controversial remark.
- Sri. Dattatreya Hosabale made the statement that Bharat should keep the doors open for dialogue with Pakistan during an exclusive interview with the Press Trust of India (PTI) on May 12, 2026.
- He stated that while the government must firmly protect Bharat's security and self-respect against cross-border terrorism, it should not completely close the doors to engagement.
- He emphasised that maintaining diplomatic relations, trade, commerce, and issuing visas is necessary because civil society interactions—involving academics, sportspersons, and community leaders—are crucial to easing long-standing bilateral tensions.
Part 2 Controversy of June 26, 2026
Sri. Ram Madhav of RSS has participated in the Track 2 talks in Srilanka recently. The event was the IISS Annual South Asia Dialogue, hosted at the Hilton Colombo. Organized by a British think tank, the security conference brought together strategic experts, scholars, and officials from multiple countries, including Bharat, Sri Lanka, the United States, the United Kingdom, Afghanistan, and Pakistan.
Result of his attending - Following the event, local media reports circulated alleging that his presence was part of a secret "Track-II" backchannel dialogue with Pakistani representatives even though Sri. Ram Madhav clarified that he did not stay for the entire two-day conference; he was specifically invited to address one specialised session and departed shortly after.
Part 3 Controversy of April 23, 2026
What are detrimental aspects ?
- He claimed that Bharat had agreed to stop importing oil from Russia despite intense criticism from the domestic political opposition.
- He mentioned that Bharat had also agreed to completely cut off oil imports from Iran.
- He stated that Bharat accepted heavy 50% trade tariffs from the US with "patience" and without pushing back. He added that Bharat additionally agreed to an 18% tariff in a newer trade deal—a rate higher than past averages.
- Clarification by Bharat Govt - The government of Bharat maintained its long-standing position that Bharat's energy choices are dictated solely by its national interest rather than external mandates or compliance with foreign sanctions. Bharat government sources have also dismissed the reports reiterating that the interactions hold no official value.
- Confession by Sri Ram Madhav - Because the government's official position strongly contradicted Sri. Ram Madhav's remarks, Sri. Ram Madhav issued a public apology and retraction the following day, admitting that his statements about Bharat halting Russian oil purchases were "factually incorrect".
Part 5 – MY ANALYSIS
Now, after carefully reading the above Parts 1 to 4, this is how I interpret the developments. In my view, there appears to be an attempt by external influences (like Deep State) to create confusion and differences within the RSS and/or BJP by drawing prominent leaders into situations that generate controversy. Whether these controveries are intentional or otherwise, such incidents can create uncertainty among RSS and/or BJP workers at the grassroot level as well as amongst the top-level leadership in both RSS and BJP.
In my opinion, both Sri Ram Madhav and Sri Dattatreya Hosabale may have become unintended targets of such circumstances. If that is the case, they may have been placed in situations where their actions or statements have led to misunderstandings and controversy.
- Sri Ram Madhav - I had great respect for Sri Ram Madhav for many years. After his return from the BJP to the RSS, different interpretations emerged regarding his political role and performance. I do not wish to speculate on those matters. But I do remember that he is a Malayali. However, his statements in the USA, followed by his participation in the Sri Lanka conference that later became controversial, have raised concerns in my mind. As a result, I find myself unable to trust him or his actions.
- Sri Dattatreya Hosabale - I continue to respect Sri Dattatreya Hosabale. At the same time, I have questions regarding his recent remarks about keeping the doors open for talks with Pakistan. Whether those comments reflected his personal opinion or the broader thinking of the RSS leadership is something I cannot know, nor is it possible for me to assess. Nevertheless, considering the Government of Bharat's stated position on the issue, I found the statement surprising and very disappointing.
Part 6 – THE SUSPICION – I may be wrong.
This is only a personal suspicion, and I may be entirely wrong. One possibility that comes to mind is whether these developments indicate that these leaders (we may include Sarsanghachalak too) have, knowingly or unknowingly, become channels through which narratives contrary to Bharat's interests are being amplified. I have no evidence to support such a conclusion, and therefore I present it only as a question rather than an allegation. My suspicion arises because RSS leaders making statements that, in my view, appeared inconsistent with the Government of Bharat's publicly stated position. These are dis-heartening, particularly when Prime Minister Modi's stand that bilateral talks with Pakistan cannot resume until the issue of cross-border terrorism is effectively addressed by Pakistan.
Part 7 – To conclude
It is unfortunate when such controversies involving senior RSS leaders create uncertainty among swayamsevaks. All of us deeply admire Prime Minister Modi's leadership and his patriotism, and naturally expect consistency between the government's stated positions and the public statements made by senior ideological leaders. When such differences appear, they can lead to confusion and concern among dedicated workers and supporters.

Track 2 Talks – Informal, unofficial discussions involving retired diplomats, former military officers, academics, think-tank experts, political leaders (usually not representing their governments officially), and other influential personalities. The ideas and recommendations from these discussions may inform or influence official policymakers, but they are not binding and participants do not negotiate on behalf of their governments.
