Like many, I'm a fan of Mohammed Rafi, but I also have a soft spot for Kishore Kumar's songs, particularly those that evoke a soothing atmosphere. Some of my favorites include "Mere Naina Sawan Bhado", "Aa Chal Ke Tujhe", "O Mere Dil Ke Chain", "Pal Pal Dil Ke Paas", "Mera Jeevan Kora Kagaz", "Tere Bina Zindagi Se Koi", "Kora Kagaz Tha Yeh Man Mera", and "Aap Ki Aankhon Mein Kuch". Kishore Kumar passed away on October 13, 1989. Yesterday, October 13, 2024, a musical tribute was organized in Mysore to honor his legacy, transporting me back to the early 1980s.

During my initial years in Mumbai, I resided in Matunga East, just a stone's throw away from the iconic Shanmukhananda Hall. I had acquaintances among the hall's staff, which granted me complimentary access to various events held in the auditorium throughout the 1980s. This privilege allowed me to watch performances by renowned Hindi playback singers from the VIP section. One notable event featured Kalyanji Anandji, accompanied by Kishore Kumar. Kishore's opening song left an indelible mark on my heart and remains a cherished favorite to this day. I hope you'll enjoy it just as much.

A notable aspect of the 1964 film "Door Gagan Ki Chhaon Mein" is that Kishore Kumar was the driving force behind it. He not only acted in the lead role but also directed, wrote, and produced the movie under his own production banner. Furthermore, he penned the lyrics, composed the music, and sang this iconic song, making him the true mastermind behind this cinematic endeavor.

ಅನೇಕರಂತೆ, ನಾನೂ ಮೊಹಮ್ಮದ್ ರಫಿ ಅವರ ಅಭಿಮಾನಿ, ಆದರೆ ಕಿಶೋರ್ ಕುಮಾರ್ ಅವರ ಹಾಡುಗಳ ಬಗ್ಗೆಯೂ ನನಗೆ ವಿಶೇಷ ಒಲವಿದೆ, ಅದರಲ್ಲೂ ವಿಶೇಷವಾಗಿ ಮನಸ್ಸಿಗೆ ಮುದ ನೀಡುವಂತಹ ವಾತಾವರಣವನ್ನು ಸೃಷ್ಟಿಸುವ ಹಾಡುಗಳೆಂದರೆ ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಇಷ್ಟ. ನನ್ನ ನೆಚ್ಚಿನ ಹಾಡುಗಳಲ್ಲಿ "ಮೇರೆ ನೈನಾ ಸಾವನ್ ಭಾದೋ", "ಆ ಚಲ್ ಕೆ ತುಜೆ", "ಓ ಮೇರೆ ದಿಲ್ ಕೆ ಚೈನ್", "ಪಲ್ ಪಲ್ ದಿಲ್ ಕೆ ಪಾಸ್", "ಮೇರಾ ಜೀವನ್ ಕೋರಾ ಕಾಗಜ್", "ತೇರೆ ಬಿನಾ ಜಿಂದಗಿ ಸೇ ಕೋಯಿ", "ಕೋರಾ ಕಾಗಜ್ ಥಾ ಯೆ ಮನ್ ಮೇರಾ", ಮತ್ತು "ಆಪ್ ಕೀ ಆಂಖೋಂ ಮೇ ಕುಚ್" ಸೇರಿವೆ. ಕಿಶೋರ್ ಕುಮಾರ್ ಅವರು ಅಕ್ಟೋಬರ್ ೧೩, ೧೯೮೭ ರಂದು ನಿಧನರಾದರು. ನಿನ್ನೆ, ಅಕ್ಟೋಬರ್ ೧೩, ೨೦೨೪ ರಂದು, ಮೈಸೂರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಅವರಿಗೆ ಸಂಗೀತ ನಮನ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮವನ್ನು ಆಯೋಜಿಸಲಾಗಿತ್ತು. ಅದು ನನ್ನನ್ನು ೧೯೮೦ ರ ದಶಕದ ಆರಂಭಕ್ಕೆ ಕರೆದೊಯ್ದಿತು.

ಮುಂಬೈಯಲ್ಲಿ ನನ್ನ ಆರಂಭಿಕ ವರ್ಷಗಳಲ್ಲಿ, ನಾನು ಶಣ್ಮುಖಾನಂದ ಹಾಲ್‌ನ (Shanmukhananda Hall) ಸಮೀಪವಿರುವ ಮಾટુંಗಾ ಈಸ್ಟ್‌ನಲ್ಲಿ ವಾಸಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದೆ. ಹಾಲ್‌ನ ಸಿಬ್ಬಂದಿಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ನನಗೆ ಪರಿಚಯಸ್ಥರಿದ್ದ ಕಾರಣ, ೧೯೮೦ ರ ದಶಕದುದ್ದಕ್ಕೂ ಅಲ್ಲಿ ನಡೆಯುವ ವಿವಿಧ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮಗಳಿಗೆ ವಿಐಪಿ ವಿಭಾಗದಿಂದ ಉಚಿತ ಪ್ರವೇಶ ಸಿಗುತ್ತಿತ್ತು. ಈ ಸವಲತ್ತು, ಪ್ರಸಿದ್ಧ ಹಿಂದಿ ಹಿನ್ನೆಲೆ ಗಾಯಕರ ಪ್ರದರ್ಶನಗಳನ್ನು ನೋಡಲು ನನಗೆ ಅವಕಾಶ ಮಾಡಿಕೊಟ್ಟಿತ್ತು. ಅಂತಹ ಒಂದು ಗಮನಾರ್ಹ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮದಲ್ಲಿ ಕಲ್ಯಾಣಜಿ ಆನಂದ್‌ಜಿ ಅವರೊಂದಿಗೆ ಕಿಶೋರ್ ಕುಮಾರ್ ಸಹ ಭಾಗವಹಿಸಿದ್ದರು. ಕಿಶೋರ್ ಅವರ ಆರಂಭಿಕ ಹಾಡು ನನ್ನ ಹೃದಯದ ಮೇಲೆ ಅಳಿಸಲಾಗದ ಗುರುತು ಮೂಡಿಸಿತು ಮತ್ತು ಇಂದಿಗೂ ಅದು ನನ್ನ ಪ್ರೀತಿಯ ಹಾಡಾಗಿ ಉಳಿದಿದೆ. ಆ ಹಾಡನ್ನು ನೀವೂ ಅಷ್ಟೇ ಆನಂದಿಸುತ್ತೀರಿ ಎಂದು ನಾನು ಭಾವಿಸುತ್ತೇನೆ.

೧೯೬೪ ರ ಚಲನಚಿತ್ರ "ದೂರ್ ಗಗನ್ ಕಿ ಛಾವೊಂ ಮೇ" ಯ ಗಮನಾರ್ಹ ಅಂಶವೆಂದರೆ ಅದರ ಹಿಂದಿನ ಪ್ರೇರಕ ಶಕ್ತಿ ಕಿಶೋರ್ ಕುಮಾರ್ ಆಗಿದ್ದರು. ಅವರು ಕೇವಲ ಪ್ರಮುಖ ಪಾತ್ರದಲ್ಲಿ ನಟಿಸಿದ್ದು ಮಾತ್ರವಲ್ಲದೆ, ತಮ್ಮದೇ ನಿರ್ಮಾಣ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಯಡಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಚಲನಚಿತ್ರವನ್ನು ನಿರ್ದೇಶಿಸಿ, ಬರೆದು ಮತ್ತು ನಿರ್ಮಿಸಿದರು. ಇದಲ್ಲದೆ, ಅವರು ಈ ಸಾಂಪ್ರದಾಯಿಕ ಹಾಡಿಗೆ ಸಾಹಿತ್ಯ ಬರೆದು, ಸಂಗೀತ ಸಂಯೋಜಿಸಿ, ಹಾಡಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಈ ಮೂಲಕ ಅವರು ಈ ಸಿನಿಮಾ ಪ್ರಯತ್ನದ ನಿಜವಾದ ರೂವಾರಿ (mastermind) ಆಗಿದ್ದಾರೆ.
