UNEXPECTED PREDICAMENTS

Image
thoughts Life is full of unexpected twists and turns, often leaving us questioning the circumstances that led us to where we are. This amusing anecdote perfectly captures the essence of life's unpredictability. One cat slipped and was about to drown in a well. Many people surrounded the well, eager for someone to rescue the cat, but no one was willing to take the plunge. Everyone looked around, waiting for someone else to step up. That's when one person jumped into the well and luckily he was knowing how to swim. By leveraging his swimming skills to survive he rescued the cat. As he emerged from the well holding the cat, the crowd praised him for his heroic act. However, the rescuer seemed slightly unhappy and angry, blurting out,  "First, tell me who pushed me into the well?" This joke mirrors real-life situations where we often find ourselves in unexpected predicaments, wondering what led us there. We might accept a job we're not passionate about or regret...

GENERATION GAP

Image
thoughts In today's fast-paced world, the relationship between parents and children is facing significant challenges, leading to a growing rift between the two generations. This disconnect can be attributed to various factors, and understanding these reasons is crucial for bridging the gap. Of late, we are experiencing a rift between parents and children, which may be true to a great extent and needs to be accepted. While this might be natural in cities, it's not as prevalent in other parts of Bharat. The reasons for this rift and its acceptance are: From the Parents' Side: Lack of adapting to current circumstances Putting excessive pressure for studies Lack of continuous communication with children Lack of understanding children's requirements Interference in most day-to-day happenings of children Expecting fulfillment of unwarranted demands Keeping great expectations from children Expecting/demanding caretaking during old age Comparing children to others or their p...

POVERTY TO PLUNDERER TO PETROLEUM TO PROSPERITY

Image
thoughts Part.1 In the Arab world, pigeons and falcon are cherished across generations and cultures, holding profound spiritual and cultural significance that reflects a deep-seated love and passion for these birds. In Mecca, pigeons are revered as "sanctuary pigeons," symbolising peace and divine favour. Pigeon racing is a popular pastime, with enthusiasts training and competing their birds in thrilling competitions. Beyond racing, pigeon keeping is a thriving commercial activity, with bustling markets and trades. For many, it's a way of life that provides purpose and connection to tradition. On the contrary in some regions, pigeons are also considered a delicacy, with dishes like stuffed pigeons being a culinary highlight leading to gastronomic pleasure.  But there should be a limit in breeding the pigeons and giving them international value especially when scientific studies show that the pigeon droppings are the cause of lung diseases in humans.  The d...

IS MOBILE WITH MARRIED MEN A CURSE

Image
thoughts There are times when phones seem more like a curse than a companion.  A mature husband, despite being away from home, might deliberately avoid calling his family. When his wife unexpectedly calls, he might brush it off with official excuses to avoid conversation. He might even curse his phone when he forgets to buy essential items on his way home, relying on reminders. Moreover, online ticket booking can be frustrating. On some occasions he needs tickets while tickets are unavailable and on some occasions he wants unavailability but only to find tickets are available in plenty. The constant notifications and distractions only add to his frustration, making him wish for a break from the digital world. At times, the phone's autocorrect feature might even change his intended message, leading to misunderstandings and further complications. In conclusion, despite its benefits, the phone's drawbacks can sometimes outweigh its advantages, leaving him feeling overwhe...

CONCEPT OF MOTHERHOOD

Image
thoughts The concept of motherhood is often associated with marriage, but it's essential to recognise that a woman's right to be a mother is independent of her marital status. As society evolves, it's crucial to shed traditional biases and embrace a more inclusive perspective. A woman has her right to be a mother irrespective of marital status. People need to understand that the mother's name is more relevant rather than the name of the father being a prerequisite for school admission. In fact, this is already implemented in Western nations. Yes, we should accept this progressive approach. This may not be acceptable to some or many in Bharat, but people should develop broad-mindedness and move beyond the constraints of a patriarchal society. I see nothing wrong in recognising a single mother's rights and dignity. By embracing this change, we can foster a more compassionate and inclusive society, where every individual is valued and respected. *** ಮಹಿಳೆಯರ ಹಕ್ಕು -...

LANKESH WAS A GOOD LITERATURIST BUT A BAD AND EXPLOITING JOURNALIST

Image
thoughts I'm sharing my thoughts about P Lankesh, a multifaceted personality who left a mark in various fields. His work continues to evoke mixed reactions, and I'd like to share my perspective on his contributions.  P Lankesh was an exceptional movie director and a talented playwright. However, like many investigative journalists, he also used his writings to expose the wealthy and powerful. His weekly publication was pioneering in its coverage of personal matters concerning public figures.  I had the opportunity to watch his drama "ಗಿಳಿಯು ಪಂಜರದೊಳಿಲ್ಲ" performed during inter-collegiate drama competitions at Mysore University in 1973. As an English lecturer, it was notable that his literary works in Kannada were widely appreciated, and I'm among those who admired his writing.  Dr. G B Harish, a close associate of our friend B R Vijayakumar, was based in Hassan in the late 1990s. I had the opportunity to meet him while I was in Hassan. The observation ...

GANDHI AND NEHRU DESTRUCTED SANATANA DHARMA

Image
thoughts In my opinion, Gandhi and Nehru's policies inadvertently favoured the British and showed leniency towards Muslims, which had adverse effects on Bharat. Both had much soft corner towards Muslims and made Bharat poorer day by day. Gandhi's decisions often overlooked Hindu sentiments, such as the payment of a significant amount to Pakistan on division and silence on Muslim-led violence against Hindus. On personal counts, he never looked after his wife or children. He was an authoritarian. Nehru's decisions had a lasting impacts. Remember he didn't want Armed forces, said police force was enough, not encouraging Army in war with China, not allowing Air-force to participate in the said war, giving away UN veto power offered to us to China, losing 40+ percent of Kashmir land to Pakistan by approaching UN taking unilateral decisions, targeting (against) Ambedkar's policies/views etc. These observations come from a place of concern and frustration. Sorry. I...

OBSERVING EKADASHI ON ALTERNATE SUNDAYS 🤔😀

Image
thoughts Day before yesterday was Ekadashi, a day observed by many Brahmin families. Interestingly, the practice of fasting on Ekadashi has scientific backing, as giving the stomach a break can help eliminate accumulated toxins and bacteria, promoting overall health. The hungry stomach eats the bad bacteria on this day. While some families opt for permitted foods like sabudana, avalakki, or uppittu on this day, swamijis and mathadhipatis often advocate for strict fasting, including abstaining from water (ನಿರ್ಜಲ ಉಪವಾಸ). They sometimes use phrases like 'God's blessings' or 'risk of Naraka darshana or rakshasa janma' to encourage adherence, which can be seen as emotional blackmail! Today's seniors were once the youngsters of yesteryear, and it's likely many of us didn't even keep track of Ekadashi days. This might be due to our parents prioritising our education, focusing on securing good grades and respectable jobs, and improving our socio-economic statu...

DO NOT PRAISE YOUR SON

Image
thoughts Chanakya Neeti contains profound advice on various aspects of life, including parenting. The royal advisor Chanakya who is also known as Kautilya or Vishnu Gupta, was a genius and can be considered a master of all arts. The statement "Do not praise your son" ( पुत्रो न स्तोतव्यः  - Putra Na Stotavyah) might seem counterintuitive in modern parenting, but it holds deep wisdom when understood in its context. I can summarise it as follows: Chanakya believed that excessive and public praise, especially for children, could lead to ego, arrogance (ahankaar), and overconfidence. Children who are constantly told that they are the best, might develop an inaccurate self-perception, believing that they are superior without sufficient effort. Children should exercise humility. Praising children can hinder their willingness to learn, accept criticism, or work hard, as they might feel they have already achieved everything. Continuous learning and self-improvement are vital, as the ...
